Apply to the Sankofa Scholars Program

The Sankofa Scholars Program empowers Petersburg-area high school students to explore their heritage, expand their worldview, and build meaningful connections through cultural education and exchange. Students engage in workshops, discussions, and global learning experiences designed to deepen their understanding of African and African Diaspora history, identity, and leadership. Please complete the application below. A parent or guardian must complete the required consent sections for applicants under 18.

Who Can Apply?

The Sankofa Scholars Program is open to students ages 12 and older living in the Central Virginia area who have a minimum 2.5 GPA. We welcome students who are passionate about leadership, cultural learning, community engagement, and exploring African heritage through educational and travel experiences. Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to grow, learn, and positively represent their communities.
